I have a lot of trouble getting socks or shoes to stay on Roman’s feet. His legs are always moving and his shoes get kicked off in the process. I have a knitted bootie pattern that is pretty good, but knitting can be pretty time consuming, even for little booties.
I came across this pattern for some sewn polar fleece baby booties, so I thought I’d give them a go. They only took about 20 mins to whip up and are pretty cute. Roman still kicks them off with a little effort, but they put in a good fight to stay on.
I made the small size and they still have a bit of growing room left in them and Roman is almost 11 months. I used non-slip shelf liner as I had a piece lying around, but it is peeling a bit, so if I make more, I’d definitely get the non-skid fabric.
3/03/2017 Update: I recently learned that Dorothy, the original creator of this pattern has passed away. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Her family have very kindly allowed me put the pattern up here for download so that people can continue to enjoy her design.

Oh I’m so glad these worked out! I’ve never had any real feedback on the booties for boys. My cousin did make some slippers for her boys with the pattern using faux sheepskin that was lined with suede…they turned out really cute. Thanks for passing this link on!

@Magen – I love the idea of the sheepskin and suede…how cute!

Hi Anon, it appears that the link to the multi sized pattern no longer exists. The pattern is still available in a size medium here. Hope that helps!

The booties are just brilliant! So easy to make! The pattern can be done in any size. I used medium size pattern from the link here and then simply copied a picture and pasted it in Word document. Then I simply enlarged the picture by dragging the edges of the picture. If you work with 100% scale, you can measure the size of the sole according to your baby’s foot. Worked perfectly for me!

Hi Yuliya – that’s great! Thanks for the tip.

Aww, his little feet look so cute in them. He’s well prepared for whatever he wants to take on in the day now 😉
That’s a good idea. I’m not much of a knitter either but I do love to sew. I hardly see any sewn booties- they’re usually knitted, so I am glad to see a pair that is attractive, functional and can be completed in twenty minutes.
You don’t want them to be too tight so I guess he will eventually be able to get them off.

I’ve heard you can cover the bottoms of slippers with dots of puffy fabric paint for a non-skid surface.

I love your site. I’m not a great seamstress, but I make do. I’m hoping you may have a link for toddler sizes? Or can I just increase the size of the medium pattern by enlarging it?
Thanks so much!!

Hi Amanda, I think I made the medium ones, and they currently fit my 15mo, though probably not for much longer. I wouldn’t enlarge the whole pattern, just lengthen the toe section, since kids ankles and feet don’t get a lot wider.

Am not able to print the fleece bootie pattern (AND am specifically looking for a smaller pattern as well) Might you be able to e-mail the pattern and instructions to me?
Thank you!!
abby says
apologies, I no longer have this pattern. Perhaps email the owner of the pattern from the link I’ve provided.

This is an easy and enjoyable pattern to use for small ones’ slipper bootees. I made a pair with a red tongue, green nostrils, and large fleece eyes for my son’s 2 yr old daughter, and she was so thrilled with them she refused to take them off at bedtime.
Incidentally, to get around the wear and tear on the non-slip soles (same stuff used to stop cups etc., sliding around in camping trailers) I simply doubled the non-slip fabric, and hand sewed it on, as the thick fleece plus non-slip was too thick for my sewing machine.
Thanks for the pattern. I’m sure it will be used many more times over the years.

such a cute idea! Thanks for the tip on the double soles.
