Whenever my relatives make the trip from the UK here to Australia for a visit, they always bring us some UK Jelly. Unlike Australian Jelly and American Jello which comes in crystals/powder, the jelly from the UK comes in a solid block (called a tablet) in the packet. What’s so good about it is that you can eat it straight from the pack! Cut into little cubes it’s a super sweet but yummy treat.
About a year ago I posted a recipe for Jelly Playdough made using the crystals. They add colour and fragrance and the playdough lasts ages! I’ve had a few emails from readers in the UK asking if the recipe can be made using the solid jelly, so I thought I’d test it out. The recipe is much the same with a slightly different method.
I only had 2 blocks, Lemon and Raspberry, so the Lemon had to be sacrificed. It didn’t add much colour to the playdough, but I’m not sure if that’s because of the flavour I used or the solid jelly. If you like the gritty texture the salt adds to traditional playdough, then you can mix it in with the dry ingredients. I like my playdough smooth, so dissolve the salt in the hot water.
1 cup hot water
Pour the liquid and oil into the saucepan and stir it all together with a wooden spoon. It will be pretty runny and may have a few lumps.

I bet that smells lovely. I remember having this sort of jelly a lot when I was little but we haven’t had any for years.
