A couple weeks back, Laura from Craftstorming had a sew-along for her new upcoming pattern, the Small Fry Skinny Jeans.
With the change of season coming, it was perfect timing and I followed along to make up a pair for Roman. He loves his new ‘Lion pants’ (the waistband facing and pocket lining have a lion print on them) and I’m having a hard time getting them in the wash because he wants to wear them every day.
There is so much I love about this pattern! They look just like real jeans with belt loops, back yoke and detail stitching. The back pockets are a great place to have some stitching fun too. I picked one of the decorative stitches off my machine. They aren’t a quick sew, but I think all the extra features are worth the time as you end up with a real pair of jeans!
The fit is great too. They are skinny, but not so skinny that they interfere with the life of a busy toddler. They come on and off easily enough too, which is always great. I made these up in a cotton drill and they go over Roman’s nappy no worries.
One leg looks longer than the other in the above photo, but it’s just the way I stuck them to the wall to take the photo. :O
We all know little kids grow fast, so the jeans have an adjustable waist. It was the first time I’ve sewn one. It was also the first time I’ve sewn a half fly. There is no zip but the button functions so that the waist opens up enough to get the jeans on and off.
Can’t wait for the pattern to come out!

These are so awesome – love all the topstitching and the detail on the back pockets. The colour is gorgeous and I’m really happy to hear that Roman likes them so much, he is so cute 🙂

These are fantastic. I love skinny jeans on my boys. I love them in a softer stretcher fabric – so much easier for boys to jump and play in. xo

What great work and such a beautiful color! The half-fly is such a great idea (even for the older boys!).

As soon as I saw these in the flickr group I was IN LOVE! Love the colour so so much. Where did you get the drill? I want to make some shorts in that colour 🙂

Wow your little man is just to cute for words. I did the sew-a-long as well and really liked how they came out. I posted on my blog about it as well if you want to see them. I must say though your choice of fabric was great! I am totally loving it. Now I just need to find some denim in that color to make another pair. 🙂
