Today I’m showing you my version of the Catalina Dress (affiliate link). I originally posted this on Melly Sews as part of the Blank Slate Sewing Team. I’m rocking a hat in the photos because my hair is about 3 days overdue for a wash…is that why hats were invented??
I have made good use of this dress this past summer. It’s easy to throw on and sooo comfy. The pockets are nice and big! I love stashing my phone and key in there if I take the boys for a walk and don’t need to worry about a hand bag.
I followed the pattern only leaving off the waist ties because I couldn’t be bothered with the buttonholes. And I’m sure the boys would just undo it all the time.
In terms of fit I think it’s pretty good. The waist sits a little higher than my natural waist so I would extend that down about half an inch next time. The shoulder seams also sit back, so I’d add an inch to the back shoulder seam.
Since making this I’ve also made a maxi version with the cap sleeve variation. I get even more wear out of it than this one since I’m always cold. I love the look of the cap sleeve and the maxi length which will make it feel like a completely different dress. What have you been sewing for yourself lately?

love this! I’d also really like to see the maxi version. I hope you blog it. I need a good maxi dress pattern.
